In Covid 2020, a NYPD Detective struggles with a case that will define his life: a serial killer from the Bible belt believes he’s a prophet sent by God to cleanse the sins of America’s largest city.
Sunny Simon is groomed by his evangelical father to take over his pulpit in Macon, Georgia. Instead, Sunny becomes Ezekiel, a Biblical prophet charged by God to warn sinners to atone. He escapes to Covid-ridden NYC to enact the Book of Ezekiel, the script directing him to remove hearts of stone and ready them for the Lord in the Valley of Dry Bones.
NYPD Detective Ezra Cahan has a less than mediocre career, until now. Due to a Covid-depleted department, he’s assigned the case to find this serial killer. A popular weather girl goes missing, then a city councillor, then more and more, as human hearts are displayed as trophies. Ezekiel explodes on social media, his millions of followers either taunt or worship him. Cahan learns the perp’s identity – the trick is finding him.
Ezekiel targets Detective Cahan. Then his life partner Mac is taken. The perp is on the move: from an abandoned psychiatric center, to a graveyard crypt, to somewhere in Kings Park. His pastor father travels north to find his son, with grave consequences. Finally, Detective Cahan corners Ezekiel, but becomes his hostage. Does Ezekiel die, a cache of bodies in his wake, or does he survive to be treated for schizophrenia? There are two endings – the reader decides
